Zagreb back to top

Zagreb is the capital of Croatia, has a population of around 780.000 citizens and it is known by many beautiful parks in the very heart of the city; situated on sloopes of Zagrebacka Gora mountain (Medvednica); city comprises two big parts: Old city and New city, on other side of river Sava.

Zagreb’s University is the biggest in the country so many young people from all over the country get their education here. Therefore in the streets you can hear many different dialects of Croatian. Don’t try to understand them! It is hopeless.
Even though the war has finished in this territory many years ago people are still asking is it safe here. Zagreb is a SAFE city! Still we have to warn you that we have European prices in Zagreb and it is not cheap city to live in! But it has its charm. You’ll see! If you come:)

Croatia lies in the central-eastern Europe, with mild climate with warm summers and moderately cold winters. However, during spring and autumn times rain is not unusuall thing here. So, please, bring your umbrella and/or raincoat so that we don't have to write an article about ZIMS induced pneumonia. Middle temperature for November is 10C, but it can vary from 3C up to 20C. Be prepared!

People

You will find out that citizens are very polite with strangers and that younger population knows English very well so you shouldn’t have problems asking for direction or advice.

Nightlife
In Zagreb there are a lot of caffe bars, pubs, nightclubs, casinos…Only, there is one problem! Most of them are open till 23:00 hours during workdays. Weekend is a bit better. Those called nightclubs work till 4:00. You’ll find Zagreb very much alive during weekend.
Espresso costs around 5-6 HRK (€0,7), various juices between 10-12 HRK, beers 0,3 dcl 12 HRK and higher depending on mark of beer.
In some places you will have to pay an entrance, but usually no more than 30 HRK (€4).

How to phone home?

Dial: 00 – code number of your country – code number of your town without 0 – your home number.

Mobile operators
In Croatia there are two: HTmobile and VIPnet! Both of them have roaming service with most European countries. It would be the best if you could ask your operators whom with are the roaming contracts signed and how much does that service cost.
